Last Week in Pictures

Last week was a busy one for our club: Coffee chat on Wednesday, produce packing on Thursday, GRSP lunch on Friday, and produce distribution on Saturday.

Take a look at some photos and videos from these events on our Facebook and Instagram profiles. The more you like, comment and share our social posts, the more exposure they receive in our community, helping build interest and enthusiasm for our club.

Volunteer Spotlight
Scott Rich and Jason Goldman: Tax-Aid

Rotary Club of Thomasville members Scott Rich and Jason Goldman, assisted by other club volunteers, began offering free tax preparation services to Tax-Aid in February and volunteer one day a week through the tax season.

Tax-Aid is delivered through a partnership of the IRS, Volunteers in Tax Assistance, Rotary Club of Thomasville, Thomas County Library, Envision Credit Union, Thomas University and community volunteers. Scott and Jason expect the program to serve approximately 275 clients, helping them file for more than $144,000 in federal refunds and $89,000 in Georgia refunds this year. Those who receive assistance through the program are retirees with low-to-moderate income via pensions and/or Social Security.

Read more in the Thomasville Times-Enterprise. If you are interested in helping with the program Scott or Jason can provide more information.

Thursday, March 27
Georgia Agriculture and the National Peanut Board

Casey Cox Kerr will provide an overview of Georgia agriculture and National Peanut Board priorities and initiatives at this week’s Rotary meeting.

Casey represents the sixth-generation of her family to farm on the Flint River in South Georgia. Her farm, Longleaf Ridge, produces sweet corn and field corn, peanuts, soybeans and timber. Prior to returning to the farm full-time, she managed the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District, serving as executive director for five years. She is currently chair of the National Peanut Board and serves on the boards of the Georgia Agribusiness Council, American Peanut Council, Georgia Seed Development Commission, and Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District.

Casey is a graduate of Leadership Georgia (2019) and the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership (2016). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Conservation from the University of Florida. Her most unique professional experience was teaching Cookie Monster and Gonger how peanut butter is made on Season 49 of Sesame Street. She lives between Camilla and Thomasville with her husband Chris and daughter Rooney.

Thursday, April 3
PCOM South Georgia: Training the Doctors of Tomorrow

On Thursday, April 3, the CEO of PCOM South Georgia, Dr. Marla Golden, will give an overview of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, South Georgia campus, in Moultrie. The college was founded in 2019 to establish a home for medical education in Southwest Georgia with a strong focus on rural health care for this region. According to the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce statistics, the Southwest Georgia region has a critical need for physicians, and studies show that physicians educated and trained in a region are likely to remain in the area to practice medicine.

Dr. Golden was named dean of the osteopathic medicine program at PCOM South Georgia in January of 2024 and is a 1988 graduate of PCOM. Dr. Golden practiced emergency medicine in different settings from rural to urban for many years and also owned and ran an integrative pain medicine practice for more than 20 years.

Come to Rotary to learn more about PCOM South Georgia and its impact on rural medicine and the region.

Thursday, April 3
Wine or Whine

Join us for Wine or Whine on Thursday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. Location and more details to come.
