December 10, 2018: Rick Berg - Cycling Across American

Rick Berg recently rode his bicycle from Portland Oregon to Portland Maine to visit as many friends and family on his holiday card mailing list as he could. Over 218 days, he pedaled 4,600 miles across 26 states – he started on his 55th birthday in March and ended up riding into Portland ME on October 14th, 2017. Along the way, Rick also met over 1,200 other people – he often asked strangers, “guess where I just rode my bike from…” which led to a lot of cool conversations and a lot of random acts of kindness too.

A lifelong traveler, Rick has been to 22 countries, moved 25 times in his life and went to 10 different schools before finishing high school. over the past 20+ years, he’s been working on Sales & Marketing strategies for many of the Fortune 500 companies including Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Merial, Intercontinental Hotel Group and Equifax. He has served as a speaker at Governor's Safety Conferences in both Oregon and Washington.

His sponsor on the ride was Red Brick Brewing and Laughing Skull beer. The generous support came from Dave Peterson, founder of North Highland Consulting, owner of Red Brick and he is a member of the Rotary Club of Buckhead. In the Spring of 2005, Rick was selected to be a member of a Rotary GSE trip to Northern Italy with a team of five from the Atlanta area.

His two sons, ages 21 (Sam) & 24 (Ben) also have the spirit of travel as both have gone West to school in Colorado and Montana. they’ve traveled to the four corners of the USA with their dad over the past two decades.
